A medical editor since 1970, Ovid M. Da Silva began his career under the direction of the late Hans Selye (physician/biochemist, well-known pioneer of the stress concept). He edited his best-selling books, The Stress of Life, Stress without Distress and Hormones and Resistance. After editing numerous manuscripts and books, Ovid branched out into French-English translation. President of IRTC since 1998, he also served as Medical Editor of the Research Support Office of the CHUM Research Centre for many years.

Valentina Baslyk holds a PhD in Russian literature from the University of Toronto and a Graduate Diploma in French-to-English translation from Concordia University in Montreal. A former professor of languages, literature and culture, Ms. Baslyk has for the past 11 years worked as a freelance translator in various fields, including medicine (heart disease, HIV/AIDS, medical devices), public health, pharmaceuticals (clinical trial documentation) and the arts (exhibition catalogues, essays). She is a member of the American Translators Association and the Editors’ Association of Canada.

Holder of a PhD from the Université de Montréal in a health-related field, Micheline Fréchette has been active for many years in various spheres of the health sector. Today, she works as a scientific and medical writer and editor. An author of many French-language articles in the medical-pharmaceutical field, Micheline writes and edits in compliance with editorial policy for manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals. She specializes primarily in Continuing Health Education (CHE), patent applications, clinical trial reports and medical articles published on the Internet.

As a writer, editor and translator, David Himmelstein has engaged a wide range of subjects including education, health, child development and language-learning. He was formerly a communications consultant for Canadian Pacific Railway, where he wrote training manuals, created a human resource newsletter, and animated communications workshops. Before moving to Montreal, he edited a newspaper for a 15,000-member trade union in New York City.

Julie Martineau has been a freelancer since 2000, after obtaining a Master’s degree in Literary Studies focused on science in literature at Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). Her assignments to date have covered many fields, including health and alternative medicine, hyperbaric therapy, user and technical manuals, installation instructions and IT, to mention only a few. Notably, Julie translated the Charter of Health Freedom written by the Natural Health Products Protection Association (NHPPA). In the near future, she plans to translate books on topics related to natural health and non-conventional medical treatments.

Medical Editor/Communications Consultant (English)
A medical editor, and communications consultant, Diane McPeak is former editor of publications for the McGill University Health Centre and Ensemble, the MUHC’s newsletter for four of McGill’s leading teaching hospitals. She was also communications coordinator for the Royal Victoria Hospital and editor/writer of numerous newsletters, websites and magazines, including Concordia University’s New Student Programme Magazine, The Bridge, and E-Clips for Miranda Technologies.

Raymonde Paradis has worked as a nurse for many years. Later, she took courses in translation at the Université de Montréal, obtaining a bachelor's degree in 1998. Since then, she works as a freelance translator/editor, particularly in the medical and paramedical fields. She has translated, among other things, clinical trial reports on cystic fibrosis, conference reports on HIV/AIDS, standard operating procedures, educational handouts about nutrition, and documents related to the gastro-intestinal system.
